Guanajuato Writing Retreat 2023:

Writing – and living – boldly

November 5-12, 2023

The focus for this year’s retreat was about bringing boldness to the page, which of course means emboldening ourselves. We explored what what lies ahead that calls us to become and write something new, and challenged the beliefs and habits that make us shy away from accepting these invitations. All the while, we enjoyed the wonders of Guanajuato, the peaceful respite of the Florecer Casitas, and the supportive, inspiring camaraderie of our group. And oh, what emerged on the page!

Guanajuato Writing Retreat 2021:

Writing from our Depth

November 14-21, 2021

Our inaugural retreat took place as we began the second year of the pandemic. On every level, from the personal to the international, we had been through a rough time. For many, our sense of certainty, clarity, and personal and creative purpose had been challenged. This week-long retreat offered participants a chance to replenish and take a well-needed leave from our every-day lives. We explored what matters most to us, to find the voice that needed to emerge.

Non-residential retreats for writers who live and around Guanajuato

The Power of Words / El Poder de las Palabras

March 29 – April 1, 2023

This 2½ day non-residential workshop addressed two themes important to established writers:

(1) Tightening and refining: We spent the first full day exploring ways to experiment with language, tone, rhythm and style until we reached the visceral sensation of saying exactly what we mean to say.

(2) Writing what we’ve been afraid to write: We spent the second full day exploring our relationship to what we say, who we protect, and how to lean in to “risky” topics. We evoked the myriad feelings of dancing (on the page) as if no one were watching.

As with the residential retreat, we shared meals, built a supportive and inspirational environment, and ended with beautify open mic event that included other local writers.
